Who We Are

We are a good bunch of friendly people from varying ages, backgrounds and varying flying abilities. We fly many different model aircraft types from Foamy, Artf, BNF to some lovely kit or scratch built models. We are predominantly a fixed wing club although we  do have a few members that will occasionally turn up and fly either a drone or helicopter.

Where We Are

Our Club is situated at Eaton upon tern in Shropshire and we fly our model aircraft from one of the perimeter tracks on the former RAF Peplow, also known as Childs Ercall airfield and is local to Newport, Telford and Market Drayton.

The former Raf Peplow is now mostly farmland as its runways have long since been returned to Agriculture although its Peri tracks have been used for full size private GA use. This is very rare now as the resident  and rather rare Saab 91D Safir G-BCFW no longer operates from our strip.

Facilities

We have the shared use of a  tarmac perimeter track that we use as our runway and also have the use of a grassed area for landing hand launched planes without landing gear. There are Grass Pitts with Car parking just opposite the pits, a furnished porta-cabin that boasts electric lights with 240v sockets 12v dc outside charging that can cope with multiple chargers running as the same time. we also have the use of flushing toilet left over from its Raf days, not the best but beats a porta-loo.

Our Club

Our club is proud to be one of the 750 Clubs nationwide affiliated with the British Model Flying Association (BMFA). This affiliation provides us with substantial support from the BMFA, ensuring that our club operates within a well-established framework. Additionally, our club benefits from complimentary third-party liability insurance, offering peace of mind to all our members.

As an affiliated club, it is essential that every flying member holds a current BMFA membership. Those who are not already members will need to join the BMFA before they can participate in any flying activities at our club. This requirement helps maintain a consistent standard of safety and accountability across all members.

BMFA Membership Benefits

For the current year, the senior membership fee is set at £51. This fee is excellent value, especially considering the significant benefits it provides. Members are covered by third-party worldwide liability insurance up to £25 million, as well as personal accident cover up to £35,000. Beyond insurance, members also receive expert advice and ongoing support from the BMFA. Furthermore, membership allows you to fly under the Article 16 rules, which have been negotiated by the BMFA with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) specifically to support our interests as model flyers.

We operate from a tarmac runway (NNE–SSW) with the flightline facing northwest. There is also a grass area for landing aircraft without wheels, a large pit area with nearby parking, a portacabin with 12V DC outlets for charging, and access to a flushing toilet

Flying with us

To fly solo at our site you will need to hold a Bmfa Achievement Award of  “A” or above or a LMA basic proficiency if you do not hold any of these but fly to a good standard a test can be arranged quite quickly as we have our own club Bmfa examiner.

If you're new to the hobby or need a refresher, our team of trainers is here to help. They'll guide new flyers from the basics all the way to earning the coveted BMFA “A” Achievement Award, which lets you fly unsupervised at most flying clubs. We are also help those with their “A” who feel rusty or less confident and would like some extra support.
